Term of the Day: EGOT

EGOT--the difficult to achieve set of awards--Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony. The actresses Whoopi Goldberg and Viola Davis has achieved this set, as have Mel Brooks and the turbulent, violent producer Scott Rudin. There are only 18 people is history who have achieved this honor, including Rita Moreno and Robert Lopez (of "Frozen" and "Avenue Q"). Andrew Lloyd Webber didn't complete his EGOT until he received an Emmy in 2018. 

Term of the Day: bald spots

 bald spots-- when sections of seats are empty in the orchestra or in the mezzanine for a struggling show. The empty seats can appear like a bald spot when the other seats are full with patrons. 'When I peeked out to count the house, there were bald spots in the mezzanine and the orchestra." 

Term of the Day: under water

under water--when a show is losing money,  when it is in the red. When a show is not making its "nut," the amount of money a show needs to make to break even.

Term of the Day: trinas

 trinas--slang for young ballerinas. From the common name for ballerinas, Katrina.

Term of the Day--a money dump

a money dump--an expensively produced flop that may be used by producers as a way to launder profits from other more successful shows. See also: laundromat

Term of the Day: adult colic

adult colic--persistant look of displeasure on someone's face, expressing perpetual discomfort. "That head? She must have adult colic. She's so unpleasant all the time and she always has a peevish and repulsed expression on her face."

Term of the Day: "no church"

"no church"--this project is not fine carpentry, just put up something that works. "When I told the tech I was going to hire Bill, a cabinetmaker, to fix up the dressing rooms, the tech narrowed his eyes and said, "Tell Bill, 'no church,'"meaning that he was not building fine cabinetry for a church, just shelves for a dressing room.
